nearly eleven years Since its release, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Still one of the most iconic video games to date.
skyrim Grants its players almost complete freedom, but like many others, I found myself returning to a particular questline time and time again. Even in the fantasy world where dragons rule the skies, I am always summoned back to the filthy heartland of Tamriel on the old path of blood, guts, and betrayal: the Dark Brotherhood.
While being an electronic assassin may seem corny, skyrimThe poor group of undeniably charming happy murderers deserves a fresh look.
“we know”
The Dark Brotherhood is an elite faction of Assassins, appearing in five major The Elder Scrolls game. Like everything else in the series, Brotherhood lore has deep roots. NPCs whisper bloodthirsty organizations lurking in the shadows, mercilessly slaughtering anyone unfortunate enough to be targeted.
Despite the rumors, the Dark Brotherhood is not just a bunch of greedy indentured killers, but a devout and organized faction. Guided by their god, the terrifying father Thetis, and his mummified bride, the Night Mother, the Brotherhood adheres to a strict code of ethics known as the “Five Creeds.”Without these principles, the Dark Brotherhood could not exist – or at least, it should not.
The guild unceremoniously kidnapped the Dragonborn (a feat in itself considering the player character is the most powerful person in Tamriel at this point in the game) and ordered them to execute a masked victim kneeling in front of them , thus making a strong first impression. After shedding satisfying blood, the Dragonborn was invited to join the legendary Assassin Order.
[NOTE: To the Skyrim sticklers, no, this technically isn’t the beginning of the Dark Brotherhood quest line, but it’s the first time the player meets any of the members. Don’t come for me please.]
Entering the faction’s crumbling headquarters, the Falkreath Sanctuary, it’s clear that the Dark Brotherhood is no longer the powerful organization that terrorized the citizens of Tamriel in earlier installations in the series. Now, they are the last of their kind.
“Quiet, my brother”
In the 200 years between the events of the last game, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivionand skyrim, the Dark Brotherhood was almost wiped out, and the few remaining members failed to clean up the mess. Under the tutelage of their leader Astrid, the members of the Falkreath Sanctuary turned their backs on Thetis, the Night Mother, and the Five Creeds.
