The new site, Character.AI, lets users chat with authors, notable scholars who may have contributed to their field a century ago. Users can even chat with contemporary artists and politicians.
Character.AI is a neural language model chat box created by Noam Shazeer and Daniel De Freitas, former developers of Google’s language model LaMDa. Launched on September 16 last year, the site, based on advanced deep learning, offers users the opportunity to create characters within set parameters.
Users can conjure or have imaginary conversations with any of the great minds in history. The site’s data comes from normal conversations in articles, news stories, books, and other digital texts. These systems include numerous bots imitating several well-known personalities.
If users want to chat with philosophers, they can chat with Socrates and Thomas Hobbes, in science, the site has Albert Einstein and Marie Curie, also in politics, users can chat with Karl Marx chatting with Margaret Thatcher. Users can clearly see the “Remember: everything the characters say is fiction” sign when using the site.
