A perfect blend of music, story and sound, available in eight languages, this speaker successfully combines fun and education. It’s durable, has its own handle, and is super easy for toddlers to operate. Timio is suitable for children aged two and up. No screens, apps or internet connection are required as your child can play content by selecting a plastic disc and inserting it into the top. There are five discs in the box covering classical music, farm animals, vehicles, lullabies and bedtime stories. Each disc looks like a clock face with pictures for each hour and kids just press the one they want. Additional disc sets cost $22 (£15) and cover topics ranging from dinosaurs to learning colors.
The speakers sound surprisingly good, and there’s a 3.5mm audio port for kids’ headphones. Timio is a great way to introduce other languages to your kids or is perfect for multilingual families (you can press and hold the language button to switch between English, Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Chinese, Italian and Portuguese). There’s also a quiz mode with prompts such as finding a police car, identifying a number, or choosing a specific shape. The Timio does require three AA batteries, and when you unscrew the back panel, you’ll also find an SD card for storage. We recommend rechargeable batteries, as you’ll be replacing them often if the Timio proves to be popular with your kids. Although they are large and you have a bag to store them in, there is a risk of losing the disc.
