Health and smartwatch deals
WIRED contributor Simon Hill gave it an 8/10, WIRED Recommends because it offers health tracking features like heart rate monitoring, EKG and blood oxygen levels, all in a classic design that doesn’t scream “smart watch”.
Jorn doesn’t have state-of-the-art fitness and health tracking, but review editor Julian Chokkattu likes it for its intuitive user interface and ease of use in discovering weather information, heart rate, and step tracking. Women’s sizes are also available at the same price.
Even on closer inspection, it’s hard to tell that the Retro Pilot is a smartwatch, but it offers music playback controls, tracks steps, monitors sleep performance, and can even be configured to operate dad’s phone camera when paired with his smartphone via an app .
Our thoughts on DNA testing kits are mixed, but if you and your dad understand and accept the potential impact of snooping on his genetic history, Ancestry’s kits are among the most detailed on the market.
The Homelabs clock is my favorite sunrise alarm clock, not because it’s the most feature-packed clock on the market, but because all of its basic features are better (or better) than sunrise alarms that cost several times the price. If Dad has trouble falling asleep or waking up in the morning, a sunrise clock may be just what he needs to get in and out of bed with ease.
Triple flexible rotating heads ensure a close shave according to Dad’s facial contours. Since it’s waterproof, he can use it in the shower, as some people like to do when shaving. It also comes with an attachment for trimming the edges of his beard if he’s not preoccupied with a completely clean shaved look.
Audio and Music Deals
For small speakers, the Roam is capable of producing loud sound that doesn’t distort at high volumes. That’s part of the reason why it received a high score of 9/10 in our review. Not only does it offer Bluetooth connectivity, but Wi-Fi as well. Part of the speaker’s appeal is that it’s also the cheapest way to join the Sonos device ecosystem. This deal is also available at Target and Best Buy.
Fender’s Player series is my top recommendation for dads who want a high-quality electric guitar that’s a step up from entry-level electric guitars, but won’t break the bank. Equipped with three single-coil pickups and a maple neck and fretboard, this model provides all the typical Strat chime and brightness.
The Beats Fit Pro (9/10, recommended by WIRED) is one of our favorite workout headphones. Review editor Parker Hall called them the best everyday headphones for iPhone owners, thanks to their comfortable, secure in-ear fit and excellent sound quality.
It’s not the biggest discount, but Apple’s AirPods Max are rarely discounted, and Hall says they’re the best wireless earphones he’s ever used. Recommended by WIRED in his review, their excellent sound and build quality earned them an 8/10. Prices vary by color.

The Go Portal (8/10, recommended by WIRED) has a 10-inch display that doubles as a Bluetooth speaker, but its standout feature is that the smart camera automatically zooms and pans during video calls, making it look like there are personal camera workers . Meta will discontinue it for consumer use, but will keep it as a commercial device, so hopefully it will continue to get software updates.
Give Dad a digital photo frame to remind him of all the good times you had together. The software automatically selects similar photos and displays them side by side on a 1920×1200 resolution, 10.1-inch screen. You can send Dad the frame and surprise him by uploading a bunch of photos of the two of you remotely via the Aura app.
Totallee is one of our favorite iPhone cases because it offers scratch and drop protection on a caseless phone, but at only 0.02 inches thick, it’s not thick enough for dad to feel like he’s holding a piece brick. The case is compatible with MagSafe wireless charging. If your dad recently upgraded his phone, the new iPhone 13 also has a case.
MasterClass offers more than 150 online courses in 11 categories, taught by renowned celebrities. He could take a writing class from Joyce Carroll Oates or a science class from Bill Nye without ever leaving the couch. The Duo plan includes access to one account on two devices at the same time, and allows users to download courses for offline viewing.
The three-lens starter kit is only $39 more than the two-lens kit, so you might as well choose an extra lens. It includes an iPhone case that allows Dad to mount all three lenses that come with the kit. You can choose from a combination of lenses, from fisheye to telephoto to macro.
If Pops is notorious for cracking down on thermostat changes, this would be his forte. Nest’s smart thermostat will act like his assistant, saving money and energy by regulating the temperature of your home without negatively impacting the people who live inside it. You might get brownie points if you hand him the tool while everyone is installing it together. That price is $5 higher than last year’s Black Friday sale.
This essential e-reader earned second place in our guide to the best Kindles. It lacks the page-turning buttons and modern charging features of the more expensive Paperwhite, but the 2019 Kindle is still a capable gadget. It’s backlit, and the 6-inch display looks and feels more like paper than a screen. The battery lasts for weeks, and Dad can fill hundreds or even thousands of books. No more going to the beach with a tote bag full of non-fiction novels!
Home and Kitchen Deals
If Dad wants to get his boots out and start cooking, this 17-piece set will provide a solid foundation for a kitchen loadout. From frying pans and pans of all sizes to a three-piece nylon cooking tool set, he’ll have everything he needs to be the newest chef in the family. Just remember to tell him to use the basket that includes the fryer with caution.

Nothing helps dad doze off better than gravity-assisted pressure. If he needs a little help falling asleep at night, or if he just likes to lie down comfortably on the couch, get him a 10-, 15-, or 20-pound weighted blanket, all for $99.
An electric kettle heats up faster than a stovetop kettle, so if Dad is the type who goes straight to coffee or tea as soon as he wakes up, speed up his morning with this digital kettle. If your pop is making pour-over coffee, the gooseneck design allows for more control when pouring.

Because when dad just needs a push-button cooker he can set and forget during the day’s work, Foodi provides a list of features. This Instant Pot competitor can pressure cook, air fry, steam, slow cook, yogurt, sear, sauté, bake, roast, sous-vide, and more.
Senior Product Reviewer Scott Gilbertson likes the Gevi because it meets two important criteria for an espresso machine: it’s mostly made of metal, and it can reach 15 bars of pressure. It does all of this at a budget price when many espresso machines cost a penny.
For most people, this is the best coffee grinder. It’s usually pretty affordable, but this discount makes it even easier. There are several different settings to suit different brewing needs without taking up too much space on the counter.
Outdoor Deals
Even with its easy-to-adjust cooking temperatures and burners, the Spirit II has become our favorite gas grill. It’s a bit small for larger families and lacks side burners, but the ceramic-coated cast-iron grill grates make up for it.
Ray-Ban’s classic Wayfarer got everyone’s attention, but the New Wayfarer is perfect for dads who might have thought the original was too big. The New Wayfarer’s lenses are slightly smaller and less angled forward, so Pop can have all the style in a sleeker package.
When dad is on two wheels, a bike helmet doesn’t have to detract from his style. Portland, Oregon-based Nutcase makes some of the WIRED team’s favorite helmets, thanks to a range of gorgeous designs and Multi-directional Impact Protection (MIPS) for added rotational impact protection.
Parker Hall gives the 7S an 8/10, recommended by WIRED for its quality components and low cost (for an electric bike). It’s light at 37 pounds, has seven mechanical gears, can reach a top speed of 18 mph, and can travel 20 to 40 miles per charge. Plus, through June 20, Propella will be shipping free.
It can hardly be called cheap, but even the more affordable 52-watt version can hit a top speed of 38 miles per hour and can travel up to 40 miles on a single charge. Because when one bike takes up too much storage space, the foldable Phantom V2 can easily be brought into Dad’s office or home.
